You know this got me to thinking there was one particular elder in my former cong. who could only operate by the book, to the letter in fact. He's the kind of guy that would be lost without the org. and actually likes it when higher ups tell him what to do. Seems to prefer that than actually having to think and decide things for himself, way too much work and risk I guess. Made for some interestring times at the hall. Actually now that I think about I've met quite a few witnesses that are like that.

In Ray's book COC there is one passage where Ed Dunlap is having an altercation with some others and one guy pipes up and says that he LIKES IT WHEN HE'S TOLD WHAT TO DO !

i was discussing this topic with two friends of mine, ex jws, a few nights ago.

i think it would be boring after a while.

you can't smoke, have to drink with moderation (difficult in europe with all the wines).

so after 20 years a convert, about a month ago i decided to start listening to my doubts and to do independent research about the wtbts teachings (naughty me).

as a result i have consolidated my position on various points and these are my major issues with the wtbts teachings, i am posting these to help myself figure things out (with your assistance) and hopefully to hear from others at their stage of drawing away from the gb - newbies' especially.

in the form of notes so hope you dont mind...child abuse.

so after 20 years a convert, about a month ago i decided to start listening to my doubts and to do independent research about the wtbts teachings (naughty me).

as a result i have consolidated my position on various points and these are my major issues with the wtbts teachings, i am posting these to help myself figure things out (with your assistance) and hopefully to hear from others at their stage of drawing away from the gb - newbies' especially.

Good thread T.I.T. subscribed, agree on most points. But I still wouldn't get a blood transfusion nor celebrate holidays, they are just so commercial and steeped in paganism. Birthdays I'm on the fence, if I had a family maybe but being single lots of these issues are made easier for me to avoid. My heart goes out to those raising a family and having to deal with all these issues, must be hard. I wouldn't want to have to teach the WT version of truth to my kids if I had any. Stick with the Bible plain and simple.

This is great I always felt the same and could just tell when a zealous JW elder knew it :

"What's great is that I will now allow myself to do the research, I've broken free of those mental controls and I hope many more will do that too, how foolish we were to allow men to decide for us what we should and shouldn't think "

I keep such one at arms length now.

I would, see may parents and family again, plus so many things I want to do. Want to build some water wheel powered mills and machine all the parts, windsurf and mountain bike all over and get bigger than Arnold could ever dream of ! Learn how to play piano, have a bunch of animals and sheeps or goats to keep the grass short. I was born to WORK ! Rock and Roll !

The real issue is long term solvency.

ok every one raves on at how miserable and tight wt is, while they are literally swimming in money and assets.

although this may be true this isn't the real issue or the problem to begin with.

the problem is having a long term survivable business plan.

I get the impression they thought the end would come sooner and now they are just scrambling to keep up with changing demographics and a more secular tech society. That and visions of grandeur from their GB are not helping.

Hi all,

Just watched Truth be Told, bought their FB promo deluxe version today ! Am enjoying it and will share it with a friend soon.

One thing I've noticed is that of all the ones interviewed were born in and were active before the internet age.

I would think their situation would of been different today. My experience having come in on my own as an adult 15 years ago was somewhat different, but made worst thanks to my own OCD and perfectionism. That and meeting up with and studying with a Super Anointed Narrow Minded Position Seeking Pioneer Elder. My problem is I wanted to do it all : sports, workaholic lifestyle and yes man Christian obligations.

I've toned it way down since and will just do what I can from now on if and when I become active again, my health and peace of mind will come first. That and third party Berean style studying.

As for the movie well done, great soundtrack and some very good arguments. I like the point of view that 'the truth' it's too much work for kids and only adults should be able to gather the facts and make up his or her own mind, no coercion or peer pressure involved. I found it to be mostly balanced and can't think of anything objectionable off hand about it.

What was depressing was the level of control some of the interviewed persons were subjected to.
